CASE DIMENSIONS: 9.25" X 12" X 4.63" THIS PRODUCT WILL BE AVAILABLE ON May 1st, 2006. Released on November 6, 2001 Genetically Modified OrganismsWe at Shelton's are aware of the growing consumer concern regarding the proliferation of genetically modified organisms, (GMO's), in the food supply. Given our preference, we would not knowingly sell any portion of any GMO in our products. Due, however, to the fact that these products require no labeling we are unable to say with absolute certainty that all of our products are GMO free, (with the obvious exception of our certified organic chickens and turkeys). To the best of our knowledge, genetic modifications could have taken place on some of the following ingredients that we use in our products. They are:Corn, Soybeans, Wheat and Potatoes. We have compiled the following grid to indicate which of our products contains any of the above.
We are taking steps to source GMO free corn, soy, wheat and potatoes for these products. We believe that all of our other products are free of GMO ingredients.
DilemmaWe have taken care that the meat in our products is our own Free-Range and Antibiotic-Free chicken and turkey. Our chickens and turkeys, however, exist on a diet that consists of corn, soybean meal and wheat. With no labeling of GMO grains, it is entirely possible that our birds eat some GMO feed grains. We have made inquiry about the origins of the grains, but the feed grain industry is largely ignorant of this issue. We will continue to press our suppliers for GMO free ingredients. The real solution is comprehensive labeling of any and all genetic engineering done on food ingredients. Gary Flanagan For Immediate Release Both farms have primary and secondary certified organic feed suppliers and have begun feeding day old chicks and poults. We have made application for and written procedures for our processing facilities that will be certified by c.C.O.F. As well. The USDA approved label claims are:
1. Certified Organic by C.C.O.F. Shelton's certified organic poultry will be available through natural foods distributors in the late summer and fall. Questions should be directed to Gary Flanagan, president of Shelton's Poultry. For the full story, click here.
Released on May 1, 1997 Due in part to consumer concern about the feeding of animal protein to meat producing animals, Shelton's Poultry has deleted all animal protein from its turkey rations. Even though the relationship between the so called "Mad Cow" disease, (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, or BSE), and a human brain disease called Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease, or CJD, is yet to be proven, the concerns of our customers are very important to us. We recognize that we will incur some additional expenses by replacing animal protein with vegetable protein, (mostly soy). We feel that the additional expense will pay off in increased consumer confidence in our products. We anticipate no adverse effects on the quality of our turkeys as we have done this in the past when the animal protein was not available. All Shelton Turkeys will continue to be raised in Free Range conditions without the use of antibiotics. Sincerely |
